2011-12 Terms and Conditions

This document contains a summary of some of the Hippie Rental Conditions for 01 April 2011 to 31 March 2012. For full detailed conditions refer to the conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement at pick-up. All prices quoted in this document are in New Zealand dollars. 

Protection Package

Personal Injury

New Zealand legislation provides limited coverage for personal injury. Hippie Camper strongly recommends that all people travelling in New Zealand take out their own personal travel insurance.

Property Damage

The Vehicle is insured for damage to it or damage to the property of a third party. However you are responsible up to the amount of the applicable Liability for the cost of such damage to third party property, or to the rented Vehicle. You are also responsible for the cost of demurrage for the period the Vehicle is unavailable due to repairs. The Liability applies in respect of each claim, not per rental.

The Liability is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident is reported to Hippie Camper, not at the completion of the rental Period.

Standard Liability

Drivers 21 to 75 years

Drivers 18 to 20 years

Note: if one driver is aged 18-20 years and the other driver is aged 21+ years, the 18-20 year liability conditions apply (i.e. $3500 Liability).

Security Deposit (Bond)

Payment of the Bond is only accepted by credit card. The amount of the Bond will be debited to the credit card account immediately. An administration fee (equal to the merchant credit card surcharge) applies. This fee is non-refundable.

*** Please keep in mind that the Liability (and relevant Bond) applies in respect of each claim, not per rental. Therefore you may need to put up multiple Bonds if you have multiple accidents or damage claims while on hire. ***

The Bond is fully refundable (excluding the administration fee) when the vehicle is returned to the correct location on time, is full of fuel and all other terms of the Rental Contract have been complied with. If there is damage to the vehicle on its return, the Bond will be used to cover the cost of such damage up to the amount of the relevant Liability. However, if the terms of the Rental Contract are breached and the Bond is insufficient to cover the damage then any extra cost will be charged. .

Your Full Responsibility

At all times you will be responsible for:

• Damage caused where the terms of Rental Contract have been breached.
• Damage caused by negligence.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle in any way by part or total water submersion or salt water.
• Damage caused due to a single vehicle roll over.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle by the renter's willful conduct.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle by the use of snow chains.
• Damage caused to the Vehicle when using the Vehicle in contravention of any legislation or regulation controlling vehicular traffic.
• Damage or loss caused to any personal belongings.
• Damage caused due to use of incorrect or contaminated fuel.
• Damage to the awning, overhead or underbody of the Vehicle.

Rental Charges

Rentals are charged per calendar day. Day of pick up and day of drop off are included as days of rental regardless of time of pick up and drop off. 

Flex Rates - Flex rates are subject to change each week. The flex rate that is available at the time of booking for the first rental day determines the daily rental rate for the entire rental period up to the 35th day. All rental days from the 36th day on are counted as a new booking and the flex rate that applies for the 36th day will be used from then on, the flex rate that applies for the 71st rental day will be used from then, etc.

Rental Duration

The minimum rental for all vehicles is 10 days. 

Exceptions: Between 15 December 2011 and 10 January 2012 a 14-day minimum rental period applies. Minimum rental periods are subject to change during peak seasons.

Branches

Hippie has campervan branches in Auckland and Christchurch. Branches are open seven days a week, 8am to 4:30pm. The latest pick-up or drop-off is 4.00pm.  

Exceptions:

• All branches will be closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday.

Transfer

Vehicles must be collected and returned to our branches (not airports). Transfers to and from the Apollo branch are provided free of charge from the Airports (within branch opening hours).

Prior to your trip, please advise Salamanda Travel your flight arrival details (flight number and arrival time). Upon arrival at Auckland or Christchurch Airport, please call Apollo on toll-free 0800 113 131 to arrange your pick-up.

One Way Rentals

A one-way fee of NZ$250 is charged for rentals between the North and South Islands (and vice versa) where pick-up is between 01 September 2011 and 31 March 2012.

Taxes

Our rates include 15% GST.

Vehicle Registration Recovery Fee

A charge of 3% of the total cost will be levied to cover vehicle registration, duties, other associated costs and administration fees.

Credit Cards

Hippie Camper only accepts payments by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club).  Visa and MasterCard will incur an additional 2% on any transaction, including the Bond. American Express and Diners Club will incur an additional 4.5% surcharge fee on any transaction, including the Bond.

Exchange Rate / Currency Variations

All credit card transactions directly through Hippie Camper are conducted in New Zealand dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Hippie Camper do not accept any liability for variances up or down. Refunds by credit card can take up to 15 working days depending on the renter’s Financial Institution.

Driver’s Licence

- A current and full state or national driver's licence is required per driver at pick-up.
- Green Provisional licences (Australian residents) are accepted.
- Copies or translations of driver's licences are not accepted.
- If the licence is not readable in English, an international driver's licence must accompany the original licence.
- You do not have to have held your full licence for a minimum amount of time.

Age Restrictions

The minimum age to drive a vehicle is 18 years. For drivers 76 years of age or over, a current medical certificate stating that the customers is fit to drive for the duration of the hire is required upon vehicle collection. The medical certificate must be issued no earlier than 2 weeks before pick-up to be valid.

Kitchen and Personal Kits

Each vehicle is supplied with complimentary living equipment (such as bedding, cooking equipment, eating utensils and tea towels).

Bedding includes (per person), a sleeping bag (which can be unzipped to use as blanket), bed sheet, pillow, pillow case and bath towel. You may wish to bring your own beach towel.

Maps and Campground Guides

Each vehicle is supplied with a complimentary Road Atlas as well as campground guides.

Vehicle Consultation

On pick-up of the vehicle our staff will provide a complimentary vehicle consultation. This includes an explanation of all the interior and exterior features of the vehicle as well as driving tips.

Hippie Welcome Pack

Each vehicle is supplied with a complimentary Hippie Welcome Pack for the first night.  The pack contains, matches, mini shampoo and conditioner, dishwashing liquid, sponge, soap, salt and pepper, coffee, tea and sugar satchels.

Bikes and Surfboards

Bikes and surfboards can be strapped to the roof racks on the Deluxe Hippie Camper.

With all bulky items, Hippie Camper does not accept any responsibility for any damage caused to the client's property. However clients are responsible for any damage that the bulky items cause to the rental vehicle, regardless of any Liability Cover taken.

Baby and Booster Seats

Child restraints cannot be fitted in the Hippie Camper.

First Aid Kits

A First Aid kit is supplied in every vehicle. If the seal is broken or the Kit is not returned the Kit becomes the property of the renter and a $50 fee is charged when the vehicle is returned.

L.P. Gas Refill Service Fee

The gas canister/bottle is supplied full. A service fee of $25 is payable on pick up of the vehicle.

The gas canister/bottle can be returned empty to the branch at the completion of the rental.

Travel Restrictions

The Hippie Camper can only be driven on sealed/bitumen roads or well-maintained access roads less than 500 metres long to recognised campgrounds.

No vehicle shall be driven on Skippers Road (Queenstown), Ninety Mile Beach (Northland), Ball Hut Road ( Mt. Cook ), Bluff Road that runs between Kuatunu and Mataurangi and North of Colville Township ( Coromandel Peninsula ).

Please note that in the event of an accident or breakdown in a remote area or in an area not permitted by Hippie, you are responsible for all costs associated with the recovery of the vehicle to Hippie's nearest branch.

ippie Camper reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions, and the distance to nominated destinations in relation to the length of the rental period.

Booking Amendments

1) Prior to pick-up:

If you wish to make any changes to your booking BEFORE pick-up the booking will be calculated by using either the original flex rate or the flex rate that is valid at the time of the booking change, depending on whichever rate is higher. There are no exceptions to this rule. The following situations are classified as booking alterations:

- Change of date for vehicle pick-up or drop-off
- Change of location (depot) for vehicle pick-up or drop-off
- Change of vehicle category
- Name change

If you decide to extend your rental duration (changing the drop-off date) by 2 days the same flex rate is used that applied on the day when you made your original booking. If you extend by 3 days or more, the booking change rule applies as outlined above.

Booking amendments must be made at least 14 days prior to pick-up to avoid the following:- if an amendment is made to the rental dates within 14 days of collection, no refund will be made if the length of hire is shortened (that is; the rental will be charged at the number of days originally booked). A relocation fee may apply if the collection or return location is amended within 14 days of vehicle pick up or if notification occurs during the hire.

2) After pick-up:

Changes or rental extensions must be made through Hippie directly. The additional days will be charged at the applicable rate (as advised by Hippie) available at the time of the extension.

- Rental Extension: If the customer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from Reservations. This is subject to availability. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone or at an Hippie Branch immediately on confirmation of the rental extension. The additional days will be at the Gross Rate available at the time of the extension.

Failure to obtain authorisation will result in the renter being charged double the daily gross rental rate.

- Rental Reduction: There are no refunds for returning the vehicle early.

- Change of Drop-off Destination: If the renter wishes to change the drop off destination after the rental has commenced, they first must obtain authorisation from the Hippie Head Office. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of $500 will be charged.

Repairs/Breakdowns

Hippie vehicles are enrolled with the New Zealand Automobile Association (NZAA). Their service is free (unless caused by your own fault) and an emergency road service is available. Any repair up to $50 needs no authorisation from Hippie and all that is necessary for full reimbursement to you from Hippie is a proper receipt for the amount of the repairs. If the repair is more than $50 then you must notify Hippie (Free Phone Number 0800 113 131) and obtain Hippie's consent before the repairs are carried out.

If the Vehicle cannot be driven as a result of a breakdown, Hippie will only reimburse you for the time that the Vehicle was not available for use. Subject to availability, Hippie will provide a replacement vehicle. However, any cost incurred in you traveling to an Hippie branch is your responsibility. The failure of accessories such as air-conditioners, televisions, microwaves, stove and grill, water pump, shower and toilet, refrigerators and radios/cassettes/CD players are not considered a breakdown and no amount will be paid by Hippie to You. Hippie is not responsible for any accommodation charges, meals, change of itinerary or out of pocket expenses resulting from a breakdown of the Vehicle or as a result of any accident. 

Note: It can often be difficult to carry out possible repairs during weekends and holiday periods and/or in remote areas due to limited opening times and/or spare parts.

Traffic Infringements

We reserve the right to charge the renter for any speeding or parking fines, traffic infringements and road toll fines.  An additional administration fee of $75 will apply to cover the costs of processing.

Change of Vehicle

We reserve the right to substitute a comparable vehicle or superior vehicle at no extra cost.  This shall not constitute a breach of contract, and does not entitle the renter to any refund.

Vehicle Category

Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.

Voluntary Downgrade

Should the renter decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked they will not be entitled to any refund.

Limit of Liability

In the event of no alternative vehicle being available to the renter our liability is limited to a refund of the hire charge or in the case of mechanical failure (unless caused by the renter) the remainder of the hire period.

Cleaning

The vehicle must be returned in a reasonable state of cleanliness or the hirer may be charged a cleaning fee up to NZ$250.

Travel Insurance

Hippie Camper strongly recommends that clients ensure they take out the highest level of personal Travel Insurance.

Animals

No animals are permitted in our vehicles, excluding guide dogs.

Important

Hippie Camper reserves the right to refuse any rental at our discretion.

To be requested at time of reservation and paid by customer on pick up at branch:

• Camping Chair: NZ$15.00 per rental
• Camping Table: NZ$20.00 per rental 
• Fan Heater (240V): NZ$15.00 per rental
• First Aid Kits: A first aid kit is supplied in every vehicle. If the seal is broken or the kit is not returned, the kit becomes the property of the renter and a $50 fee is charged when the vehicle is returned.
• GPS Navigation Unit: NZ$10 per day (maximum NZ$90 per rental)
• Snow Chains: NZ$50.00 per rental (on request)
