This document contains a summary of some of the Jucy Rental Conditions for 01 Apri 2011 to 31 March 2012. For full detailed conditions refer to the conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement at pick-up. All prices quoted in this document are in New Zealand dollars.
Protection Package
Personal Injury
Personal Injury is covered in most cases through Registration Third Party Insurance. We strongly recommend that all people traveling in New Zealand take out Personal Travel Insurance.
Standard Excess
All vehicles are insured for the damage to the vehicle or to the property of a Third Party. The hirer is responsible for the first AU$3,000 ("the excess") for all drivers. This is of the cost of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, overhead and underbody damage, tyre damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in, vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage). The Excess applies in respect of each claim, not rental.
The Excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental. The Excess will be refunded if we are successful in recovering the cost of the damages from the Third Party. Please note that Third Party Claims can take months to resolve.
The Excess can be reduced, in most circumstances, by the purchase of Excess Reduction Option 1 or Excess Reduction Option 2 (Inclusive Package).
JUCY STRONGLY RECOMMENDS OUR CUSTOMERS TO TAKE EXCESS REDUCTION OPTION 2 TO MINIMISE EXCESS EXPOSURE AND TRAVEL WITH PEACE OF MIND.
Exclusions:
1. Standard Excess, Excess Reduction Option 1 and Excess Reduction Option 2 do not cover any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to:
a) any vehicle submersion
b) creek or river crossing
c) driving through low plain flooded areas
d) beach driving
2. Personal belongings are not covered. We recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.
3. All Excess Reduction is void if the terms of the Rental Agreement are breached. The hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage. This will also include any damage caused by wilful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
4. Standard Excess, Excess Reduction Option 1 & 2 does not cover the incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol). The hirer will be responsible for any associated cost.
5. The hirer will be responsible for the cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged, regardless of the Excess Reduction Package taken.
6. The hirer will be responsible for the cost to replace keys which have become lost, or retrieval of keys which have been locked in a vehicle.
7. The hirer will be responsible for any costs relating to overhead or underbody damage, tyre damage (unless the hirer has taken Tyre/Windscreen Waiver or Excess Reduction Option 2), damage to lights or vehicle interior and damage caused from the use of snow chains and roof racks, however caused.
Vehicle Security Deposit
On pick up of the vehicle, a Vehicle Security Deposit is payable. The amount is determined by the Protection Package selected.
If you do not take Chance-It option or Stress Free option, the Security Deposit is AU$3000, payable by credit card only (signed imprint with authorisation).
If Chance-It option has been taken, the Security Deposit is AU$1500, payable by credit card only (signed imprint with authorisation).
If Stress-Free option has been taken there is no Security Deposit but Jucy do record your credit card details.
The Security Deposit is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time, undamaged and with fuel full. We reserve the right to retain a $100 cleaning fee if the vehicle is not returned with the interior in a clean condition. The toilet and waste water tank (if applicable) must be emptied prior to the return of the vehicle, or an additional $100 cleaning fee will be retained. In the instance of Excess Reduction Option 2, the credit card voucher will be returned to the hirer.

Rental Duration
When calculating the number of days a vehicle is rented, the day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick-up time. The day of the vehicle's return is counted as the final day of the rental. When a rental moves from one rate season into the next, the calculation is based on both rates.
- Minimum rental period for rentals is 7 days. (Longer minimum hire periods will apply for travel between 14 December 2010 - 15 January 2011)
- Minimum rental period for one-way rentals is 7 days (or as otherwise specified).
- Late pick up or early return of vehicle does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.
One Way Rentals
One-way rentals are available between all branch locations. One-way fees are not charged for Salamanda clients.
Diesel Tax Recovery Fee
The Diesel Tax Recovery fee will be calculated and collected on return of your vehicle based on the kilometres travelled during your hire.
The vehicle rates per 100km are as follows:
2 Berth Crib: Nil
2 Berth Chaser: NZ$4.75
3 Berth Charga: NZ$4.75
4 Berth Grande: NZ$4.75
4 Berth Condo: NZ$4.75
Rates are subject to Government changes.
Branch Hours
Auckland City, Auckland Airport, Christchurch and Queenstown.
An Auckland Airport Fee of NZ$2 applies for any rental collected from the Auckland Airport branch.

Pick-ups and drop-offs after branch hours may be available by prior arrangement (excluding Queenstown). Late returns will be charged on a per day basis.
Transfers
Vehicles must be collected and returned to the Jucy branches (not airports). Jucy provides free airport to branch transfers on the day of arrival and departure (Auckland and Christchurch). The Queenstown branch is located within walking distance of the Airport Arrivals Terminal.
- Airport pick-up: Please advise Salamanda Travel your flight arrival details (flight number and arrival time). Upon arrival at the Airport, please call Jucy on 0800 399 736 and an Jucy staff member will organise your free transfer from the Airport to the branch.
- Accommodation pick-up: Please advise Salamanda Travel your hotel address and preferred pick-up time. (Jucy have set pick-up times for hotel collections). Important! Upon arrival in New Zealand, please call Jucy on 0800 399 736 to confirm the pick-up time and place.
Infringements
Jucy reserve the right to charge the hirer for any speeding, parking or tollway fines, associated administration costs and/or accidents including third party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle.
Exchange Rate / Currency Variations
All credit card transactions directly through Jucy are conducted in New Zealand dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Jucy does not accept any liability for variances up or down.
Credit Cards
When a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. Accepted credit cards are Visa, MasterCard and American Express (credit card fees apply: 2% surcharge for Visa/MasterCard and 4% surcharge for American Express transactions).
Driver's Licence
- A current and full state or national driver's licence is required per driver at pick-up.
- Provisional licences are not accepted (exception: green provisional licences from Australian residents are accepted)
- Copies or translations of driver's licences are not accepted.
- If the licence is not readable in English or does not have a photo, an international driver's licence must accompany the original licence.
- Drivers do not have to hold their licence for a minimum amount of time before hiring an Jucy vehicle, but the licence must be valid for the duration of the rental.
Age Restrictions
Drivers must be 18 years of age or over. (Special insurance conditions apply for drivers 18 – 20 years of age). A medical certificate stating that the customer is fit to drive the vehicle they have booked for the duration of the hire is required for drivers over the age of 75.
Booking Amendments
- Prior to pick-up, Salamanda Travel can assist with booking amendments up until the date of pick-up. This is subject to vehicle availability and may result in rate adjustments.
- After pick-up, if the hirer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must contact Jucy direct and obtain authorisation from the destination branch. This is subject to availability and any extra rental days are charged at Jucy's standard (brochure) rates. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone on confirmation of the rental extension.
Failure to obtain authorisation will result in a fee of NZ$150 in addition to the daily rate.
Change of Drop-off Destination
If the hirer wishes to change the drop-off destination after the Rental has commenced, they must first obtain authorisation from the destination branch. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of up to NZ$500 may apply.
Road Restrictions
Vehicles can only be driven on sealed/bitumen or well-maintained roads. Ski field access roads are permitted, apart from the following restrictions. No vehicle shall be driven on Skippers Road (Queenstown), Ninety Mile Beach (Northland), Ball Hut Road (Mt. Cook) and North of Colville Township (Coromandel Peninsula).
Jucy reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.
On-road Assistance
Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure, must be reported to Jucy.co.nz as soon as possible, and within 24 hours in order to give Jucy.co.nz the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. We do not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period. AA Toll free (0800 22 43 57)
The hirer shall ensure that no persons shall interfere with the distance recorder or speedometer, or except in an emergency, or any part of the engine, transmission, braking or suspension system of the vehicle.
Change of Vehicle
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Jucy reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund.
Vehicle Category
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.
Voluntary Downgrade
Should the hirer decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked they will not be entitled to any refund.
Important
Jucy reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.
Animals
No animals are permitted in our vehicles, excluding guide dogs.
Personal and Company Cheques
Personal and Company cheques will not be accepted as payment for rentals at the time of pick-up. Personal or Company cheques are not acceptable as the vehicle security deposit.

Illustrations and text in any of our brochures or website are a representation only of the vehicle depicted. Variances in the vehicles offered for rental may occur due to substitutions made by Jucy or modifications and/or upgrades to the vehicle design made by the manufacturer.
